Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd

Company Overview
Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd. specializes in the design, development, manufacturing and sale of photovoltaic (PV) cells, modules and systems. Founded in January of 2001 by Dr. Zhengrong Shi, a distinguished PV technology scientist, Suntech has rapidly developed into a leading solar energy company. In less than three years since it commenced its business operations in May 2002, Suntech has increased its manufacturing capacity by 12 times, becoming one of the world's top 10 manufacturers of PV cells based on production output according to Photon International, a magazine covering the international PV industry.

Selling its products in almost every major market in the world, Suntech is among the new breed of successful domestic China-based companies with global ambitions.

Today, Suntech's PV systems are used in a wide range of applications, including communications and broadcasting, transportation, housing, and military. As the financial and environmental cost of relying on traditional fossil fuels continues to rise, Suntech is leading the field in developing a renewable energy source that is not only abundant, but affordable. Suntech is committed to become the "lowest cost per watt" provider of PV solutions to customers worldwide.

By focusing on technical leadership through leading R&D and a culture based on innovation, cooperation and integrity, Suntech is working daily to realize its vision to be a global energy leader, providing efficient solar solutions for a green future.

Vision: Energizing a Green Global Future Across the globe, demand for energy is accelerating on a daily basis. While traditional fossil fuels continue to play a major role, the demand for alternative energy sources is outpacing the global market with clean, reusable and affordable solar power increasingly being recognized worldwide as the leading alternative energy source for the 21st century. At Suntech we see energy as a central environmental issue with implications for the entire world. And because we share in a need to address tomorrow's energy supply, we believe that energy should be affordable for everyone. That's why at Suntech we have a vision of becoming one of the world's largest solar energy providers. By producing low cost per watt solar solutions through ongoing investment in R&D combined with our low-cost China-based manufacturing, we're working towards making sure the global future of energy is efficient, sustainable and affordable.

Culture: A Focus On People
At Suntech, you'll find our company values – sincerity, honesty, and equality – embedded in every aspect of our organization. The Suntech logo – a red background, the traditional Chinese color of passion and auspiciousness, with a white "S" intersecting like a river, unrelenting and dynamic, an inexhaustible source of progress – symbolizes how we envision our future, continually driving upwards and onwards. At Suntech, we believe that good companies are built with good people. We strive to foster a spirit of innovation, cooperation, teamwork, and speed through incorporating our employees into our family and treating them with concern and compassion. The relationship between the company and its people is reciprocal. As they grow, personally and professionally, we grow. At Suntech, we place high value on our relationships with integrity and trust as the foundation. This includes not only relationships that we've built with customers, but also with our partners and employees, and extends to our commitment to create exceptional, long-term value for our shareholders.

Worldwide Business Overview
At Suntech, we believe that energy should be clean, affordable and abundant. Today, Suntech's products are sold in every major PV market in the world and we're growing fast. In just a few short years we've positioned ourselves not only to meet our corporate growth goals but to lead the future of renewable energy.

Europe
Approximately 80% of our products are sold in the European market with Germany being our biggest market. Suntech's emphasis on product quality and international management standards has not only helped Suntech obtain a range of operating certificates, meet a range of test standards including IEC 61215:1993, CE certification, TÜV certification, ISO 9001:2000 quality system certification but also established Suntech's reputation as a trusted PV manufacturer through out the region. Suntech has developed a line of PV cells with increased energy efficiency without increasing cell manufacturing costs.

China In February 2005, China enacted the Renewable Energy Law, which authorizes relevant authorities to set favorable prices for the purchase of surplus on-grid PV-generated electricity, and provides other financial incentives for the development of renewable energy projects. In addition, the State Council of China and the Ministry of Construction have recently promulgated directives encouraging the development and use of solar energy in both urban and rural areas. Various local authorities have also introduced initiatives to encourage the adoption of renewable energy including solar energy. Furthermore, in October 2005, the Shanghai municipal government endorsed the "100,000 Roof Project" for which a feasibility study was commissioned in August 2004.

Asia and Africa Throughout Asia and Africa, solar energy is the leading solution for electricity shortages in rural and remote areas. In Africa, the poor feasibility of utilizing wind power has helped encourage the adoption of solar energy as the renewable energy resource of choice. Currently, the World Bank finances solar projects in multiple African nations. The energy situation in Asia is remarkably similar to that in Africa with more and more solar projects sponsored and supported by local governments and international institutions such as the Asia Development Bank. This scenario is particularly evident in Thailand, Malaysia and Bangladesh. Asia and Africa represent two extremely important large growth markets whose energy consumption will increasingly affect the world energy market. Since establishing Suntech, we have supported the energy needs of these markets and plan to continue supplying customers in the area with high quality PV products and services. Australia and New Zealand

Despite the abundance of perpetually open and sunny skies in Australia and New Zealand, the PV markets in both these countries remain relatively underdeveloped. Unlike countries with more developed PV markets, Australia has no government policies in place to encourage the adoption of solar energy and New Zealand's government incentive programs are a mere fraction of what they are in countries such as Germany, the United States and Japan. However, this environment is beginning to change. The Australian government is in the process of drafting new environmental policies and New Zealand has already launched an incentives program to encourage solar energy. In keeping with Suntech's belief in the need to drive growth with innovation, Suntech has established relationships with Australia's top universities and research institutions. The combination of home-grown technology advances with Suntech's quality manufacturing and after-sale-service makes Australia another highly important operating region for Suntech

North America The PV market throughout North America is flourishing. With extremely high consumption of traditional fossil fuel resources throughout the region, more and more countries are turning to renewable energy. In the United States, a number of states, including California, New Jersey and Nevada, have committed substantial resources to developing and implementing renewable energy programs.

For example, in California, a customer who has purchased solar energy products can receive a cash rebate from the California Energy Commission, a state tax credit and can take advantage of net metering. The customer's cash rebate is based on the capital cost of the PV system. This cash rebate may be assigned to the solar installation company selling the PV system, lowering the effective net capital cost to the customer.

Devoted to creating environmental solutions over the long term, Suntech has been building enduring cooperative relationships with partners to sustain development in the U.S. market. Suntech is looking to continue this trend and establish a larger net of partnerships in the region. http://www.suntech-power.com/
