​Mr. Tsukamoto was appointed as the Director of the Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific (RRC.AP) from July 2018. RRC.AP at the Asian Institute of Technology assists countries to advance their environment and sustainable development goals through the provision of capacity-building, knowledge sharing, policy advice, and research in three thematic areas: Climate Change, Air and Atmosphere, and Waste Management.

Since 1985 when Mr. Tsukamoto started business career at the Ministry of the Environment of Japan, he has been engaging a wide range of environment and sustainable development issues at both international and domestic. From 2005-2008, he served as the head of Japanese Delegation to the IPCC/AR4. Under UNFCCC he served as Vice Chair and board member of the Adaptation Fund Board from 2006-2008, as well as a member of the Adaptation Committee from 2011-2013. From 2014 to 2016, he worked for the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) as Secretary-General/Principal Researcher. Since 2016, he serves as Project Director under the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS). His current research areas encompass climate change, education for sustainable development, sustainable use of biodiversity by communities, and monitoring of POPs.

Mr. Tsukamoto obtained his bachelor’s degree at the University of Tokyo, master’s degree in Environmental Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, and currently, a Ph.D. candidate at Hosei University, Japan.
